It's midnight and I'm on my first night shoot! I'm on the bus cleaning
all the wigs from last weeks shoot which was in a village called Deep Cut in Camberley, Surrey. It was a fight scene where stunt men were used and there was a lot of blood involved so the wigs are in a bit of a sticky mess! Last week I was in the crowd room, helping the girls and making sure they all had their time-sheets, start forms and any other paperwork they needed to fill in. I worked between the girls and Jules, who is running second unit which is the unit I'm working on for this film.
Second unit deals with all the doubles, stuntmen, crowd etc. Its a completely different role for me from the Mike Leigh film I worked on as a trainee, earlier this year and was a trainee on the main bus!
There's a lot more admin, taking photos for continuity and making sure the crowd gets through makeup on time for their call to set. We've had quite a few students from CBMA working on the film so it's been a really good experience for them and a chance to do a bit of networking with other make up artists; a chance for them to meet some of the talented, senior make up artists who have been working in the industry for the past 25/30 years. They kindly gave advice and shared their knowledge with the trainees! They were all very helpful and encouraging to the girls.
