SUE GIBSON BIOGRAPHY

After graduating from the National Film School in 1981, Sue became a Director of Photography and began her career in TV commercials. During the 1980s she worked in LA, New York, Paris, London, South Africa and Russia, receiving recognition for her work from the British Television Advertising Awards, the Designers & Art Directors Association and  the Cannes Festival.
Her first Feature Film was “Hear My Song” directed by Peter Chelsom in 1989 followed by “Secret Friends” in 1990, the last film directed by Dennis Potter, which won her an Evening Standard Film award in 1992. Since then she has photographed several more features including Vanessa Redgrave and Robert Hardy in“Mrs Dalloway”; Mariel Hemingway and Colin Firth in “Londinium”, Alan Rickman and Juliette Stevenson in“The Search for John Gissing”, Pauline Collins in “Mrs Caldicot’s Cabbage War”, and also worked on “Resident Evil” and  “Alien versus Predator”.
Her TV credits include “Amongst Women” which won the Irish Film and TV Academy award for best Craft contribution, “The Forsyte Saga”, several Agatha Christie dramas including Poirot and Miss Marple, and set the style for the successful BBC series “Spooks” for Kudos Films. She continues to work both in TV Drama and Feature Films.
In 1992 The British Society of Cinematographers  made her its first woman member since its foundation in 1949, and she is now President of the Society.

 SUE GIBSON graduated from the Newport College of Art with a BA Hons Fine Art Degree in Photography and is a Graduate of the National Film School. Whilst there she photographed three drama films: "SLEEPWALKING", "COASTERS" and 'JOHN LOVE" - nominated for Best Short Film BAFTA. Women in Film, London Chapter - first recipient of Technical Achievement Award. First lady member of the BSC.
